Series of 18 digital Photographs, color, different formats, mate paper on metal support, 2021 and 2024
This series of photographs explores the lack of freedom and equality for Iranian women under the grip of a theocratic power. This work is symbolic and iconic, addressing the courageous Iranian movement “Woman, Life, Freedom” that followed the death of Mahsa Amini, where the Islamic Republic did not hesitate to kill, imprison, and execute people who took to the streets to demand democracy and secularism. Like an artist who uses the walls of their country to convey political messages, I, in exile, far from my country, use my body as a canvas. I write the words “My body is mine, your body is yours, and his body is his” to highlight the importance of freedom of choice in all aspects of our lives, both intimate and public. This includes the freedom to choose our appearance, sexuality, and gender identity.
